Dr. Merola, who joined UT Southwestern October 16, 2023. came from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. He held many leadership positions there, including Vice Chair of the Department of Dermatology in Clinical Trials and Innovation, Director of the Clinical Unit for Research Innovation and Trials, Director of the Center for Skin and Related Musculoskeletal Diseases, and Director of the Harvard Combined Internal Medicine-Dermatology Residency Training Program. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and a Master of Medical Sciences degree from Harvard Medical School. Worth, Park Cities at Home, Vail Sitters and Scout Reference, a B-to-B SAAS company providing reference checking services for trust economy employers. He enjoys the challenges of entrepreneurship and has started and led multiple early-stage businesses. Jim is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law and the Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration/economics with honors. He was the recipient of the OU President’s Medal and the prestigious Letseizer Award for outstanding graduate. Jim was a Commander in the US Navy Reserve (Ret.). Kelly Carter Nelson, MD < Back Kelly Carter Nelson, MD Faculty Professor of Dermatology, MD Anderson Cancer Center Dr. Nelson serves as the associate medical director for the multidisciplinary Melanoma and Skin Clinic. Dr. Nelson earned her medical degree and completed dermatology residency training at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, and is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Nelson’s clinical practice focuses on the care of high-risk cutaneous oncology patients, and her funded research leverages educational theory, implementation science, and geospatial modeling approaches to support melanoma secondary prevention for the state of Texas. Also, she is a passionate teacher and has developed an evidence-based interactive web-based curriculum to teach dermoscopy to dermatology residents (DERM:Early Melanoma Detection), which reaches over 400 dermatology residents a year. Jennifer Cather, MD < Back Jennifer Cather, MD Faculty Jennifer C. Cather, MD, FAAD, is the Medical Director and Founder of Mindful Dermatology and Modern Research Associates in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Cather earned her BA in Chemistry at the University of Texas, graduating Magna Cum Laude and her MD at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. After completing anInternal Medicine internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, she completed a Clinical Research Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center and a residency in Dermatology at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. She is licensed to practice in Texas and California and is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Cather has been an investigator in more than 275 clinical research trials in the areas of psoriasis and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and has authored or co-authored numerous abstracts and manuscripts.
